Project Learning Tree

Project Learning Tree® (PLT), the environmental education program of the American Forest Foundation,  uses forests as a window on the world and provides educators with environmental education curriculum resources that can be integrated into lesson plans for all grades and subject areas. PLT teaches students how to think, not what to think, about complex environmental issues, and helps them acquire the skills they need to make sound choices about the environment.

Developed in 1976, PLT’s 50-state network includes more than 500,000 trained educators using PLT materials that cover the total environment. Its curriculum is peer-reviewed and award-winning. PLT also works with elected officials to fund environmental education in our schools.

There is an urgent need for environmental education. With more and more children disconnected from nature, there is a real chance the next generation of leaders will not be ready to inherit America’s natural legacy.  When educators choose to use the fact-based and credible education voice of  PLT, they help ensure the conservation of our forests for generations to come.

How to use PLT in your classroom

Visit our calendar to find a workshop or conference that interests you. You can browse by geographical location or area of interest. New events are frequently added to the calendar, so be sure to check back often for training and professional development opportunities that work for you. Programs are available for teachers, non-formal educators, and pre-service teachers (teachers in training).

Non-Government Organizations

Kids don’t just learn in the classroom — organizations are a large part of education, too. Project Learning Tree is a credible education voice, and a leader in environmental education policy fights. It can convene parties from all sides, and bring environmental educators to share their experiences.
